#HELP UKRAINE
"Mr. Jones"
- The Film
We are delighted to host this film screening of the 2019 film Mr. Jones to help raise funds for Ukraine relief and to raise awareness of Holodomor, an important part of European history that is unknown to many.
The film tells the story of Gareth Jones a journalist from Wales who travels to the Soviet Union in 1933 and uncovers the truth about the Holodomor, the devastating famine in Ukraine in which millions died. He was vilified internationally and accused of lying. Calling him their 'Unsung Hero', in 2008, Jones was awarded the Ukrainian Order of Merit, one of their highest Honours, at a ceremony in Westminster Central Hall.
This film was made about Mr Jones, based on the screenwriting of Andrea Chalupa, directed by Agnieszka Holland and starring James Norton, Vanessa Kirby and Peter Sarsgaard.
You can register for free but we ask all attendees who are able to do so to make a donation to #HelpUkraine of the Ukrainian Association of Great Britain, or (with Gift Aid) the Charities, British-Ukrainian Aid and Ukraine Charity to provide medicines, food and critical services to support the most vulnerable to overcome the consequences and trauma of war.
You will be able to donate via the registration form but there will also be an opportunity to donate at the event.
It is anticipated that James Norton, the actor who played Gareth Jones, will make an introduction and the director Agnieszka Holland, will join an online panel discussion following the film.
The timing of this event is incredibly timely & relevant. The story of Gareth Jones shares a strong synergy with what is happening in Ukraine today.
This event is open to all and has been organised between Rights-Liberties-Justice (LibDemLawyers), the Lloyd George Society, the film distributor, Signature Entertainment, and Gareth Jones' great nephew, Graham Colley.
We hope you will join us to learn more about this important part of Ukraine's history and to show your support & solidarity with Ukraine's people today.
