Lloyd George book is Number 1 with MPs
A report in today's Scotsman newspaper reveals that Ffion Hague's biography of Lloyd George and the women in his life, "The Pain and the Privilege" has been voted joint top summer reading in a poll of 150 Members of Parliament carried out by the booksellers, Waterstones.
Mrs Hague's book is equal first in the MPs' top ten with "A Thousand Splendid Suns", by the Afghani novelist Khaled Hosseini's, who wrote the best-seller "The Kite Runner". This is a story set in Afghanistan and contrasting the experiences of two women against the background of the Soviet occupation and the regimes of the Mujaheddin and the Taliban.
Mrs Hague's husband, former Tory leader William Hague, comes in at number 3 in the list with his biography of anti-slave trade campaigner William Wilberforce.
