Dr Charles Smith, along with Lord Thomas of Gresford and Baroness Walmsley, will be giving the second session of the weekend on Wales and Europe. Dr Smith is the Chair of Bridgend for Europe and Wales for Europe.
Wales for Europe and its sister organisation European Movement UK regard 2026 as a critical year in the history of UK-EU relations. The elections to the Senedd, Scottish Parliament and English local authorities in May will be highly consequential, not just locally and regionally, but nationally and internationally. Because so many of our current economic and social problems can be directly traced to the damage caused by Brexit. Wales for Europe wishes to help put “Rejoin” firmly on the agenda for the Senedd elections, and has produced a “Manifesto on Europe” for all Senedd candidates and all electors in Wales to consider. It contains many ambitious and forward-looking recommendations, for example, it advocates the creation of a Senedd cabinet member specifically tasked with responsibility for international affairs. The manifesto is available through this link, and hard copies (free of charge!) will be available at the Lloyd George Society weekend!
