David Lloyd George – The Truth Against the World

Three Prime Ministers held their parliamentary constituencies in Wales, David Lloyd George, Ramsay MacDonald and James Callaghan. MacDonald and Callaghan today are rarely mentioned but Lloyd George’s name remains almost constantly on politicians’ lips in the UK and across the world. This was not just because he was ‘the man who won the war’. Lloyd George was much more than a war leader, he was a social reformer, creator of nations, leader of all political parties and at times a leader with no political party.
Professor Russell Deacon, Chair of the Lloyd George Society, is giving two talks about Lloyd George in the coming weeks looking not only at Lloyd George’s own record but exploring something of the wit and wisdom of this most powerful of political orators, a man described by Winston Churchill as the greatest Welshman since the Tudors. The talk will also include selected readings from Lloyd George’s own writings and speeches.
The first talk is on Saturday 24 November at the National Library for Wales in Aberystwyth starting at 2.00pm. Tickets are £4.00 through ticketsource at this link: https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/boxoffice/select/NHMDSpVLzvOv
The second talk will be the Gwent Archives Christmas Lecture to be held on Thursday 13 Decenber from 2:00 – 3:00 pm at Gwent Archives, Steelworks Road, Ebbw Vale, NP23 6AA. Admission will be £5 to include free tea/coffee and mince pie. Booking in advance required, please contact Gwent Archives on 01495 353363 or at enquiries@gwentarchives.gov.uk.
