Lloyd George Society – Annual Weekend Event 2026 – March 7-8 2026

We are delighted to share with you the programme for the Lloyd George Society’s 2026 Weekend (here) – an event that promises to be one of the most exciting and unmissable gatherings we have held in years. This year’s weekend offers a genuinely exceptional line-up: among our many distinguished speakers, we welcome one of the UK’s most eminent historians, Lord Kenneth O. Morgan, together with his equally eminent wife Professor Elizabeth Gibson-Morgan. We are also pleased to announce that Damian Collins, former MP and author of one of the most recent and acclaimed books on Lloyd George, will be joining us. Our after-dinner speaker needs little introduction: the award-winning journalist Martin Shipton, well-known and respected by many of our members, will be offering his insights.

Alongside these headline speakers, we will also feature several well-known faces from within our own Society as well as an excellent range of new voices. It promises to be a truly varied and stimulating programme.

We are introducing a number of new elements this year. Dedicated time will be set aside for the many authors who attend to promote and sell their books—always of great interest to those who come to the weekend. We are also launching a ‘Show and Tell’ table, where members are encouraged to bring along their Lloyd George or political ephemera to share with others. As part of this, we are delighted to welcome the Welsh Political Archive from the National Library of Wales, who will be bringing a special display of their work, including material relating specifically to David Lloyd George.

Following the preferences expressed in our recent questionnaire, the weekend will now continue until 3.00 pm on Sunday, and will conclude with a Sunday roast lunch before we depart. We also understand that we will have sole use of the hotel on the Saturday evening, which should add to the atmosphere of the event.

The formal part of the weekend will run from the morning of Saturday 7 March to the afternoon of Sunday 8 March 2026. However, the Lake Country House Hotel & Spa, Llangammarch Wells, will be open for those who wish to book an evening meal, bed and breakfast on the Friday as part of your overall package. This four-star luxury hotel offers an excellent standard of service, food, and accommodation, and should prove to be a superb venue for the Lloyd George Weekend.

Booking details for the weekend can be found here.

If you are attending via rail, here is a handy timetable to the nearest train station. As ever, please check with the train companies in case these times change.
