Richard Rhys O’Brien is the author of two recent books on Margaret Lloyd George (the first President of the London Welsh Centre, 1921-1922), both of which can be purchased here.

“The Woman Who Helped Win the War – The Welfare Campaigns of Margaret Lloyd George, 1914-1918”  describes her 6 major campaigns during WWI: for her Welsh Troops Fund; the British & Foreign Sailors’ Society; Welsh Army recruitment; Food & Home Economy; Temperance; Health & Social Welfare. It also looks at her campaigning for women, churches and Wales.

“The Campaigns of Margaret Lloyd George – The wife of the Prime Minister 1916-1922”  is an in-depth analysis of her public life as wife of Prime Minister David Lloyd George, bringing to the fore her active political campaigning during his peacetime Premiership from 1916 to 1922, an unprecedented role and virtually unmatched by the spouse of a Prime Minister. Richard traces her campaigning on the hustings around the country and also the many places in London where she campaigned, from Romford to Hanwell, Hampstead to Camberwell, and  the streets of Central London.

In all this she was supported by Richard’s grandfather, the Rev. J.T. Rhys, her private secretary at No. 10 and himself an active member of the London Welsh Community. The archive of letters and speeches he left behind has given Richard a perfect launch pad to dig deeper in the life of Margaret Lloyd George.

Mae Richard Rhys O’Brien yn awdur dau lyfr diweddar ar Margaret Lloyd George (Llywydd cyntaf Canolfan Cymry Llundain, 1921-1922)

Yn “The Woman Who Helped Win the War – The Welfare Campaigns of Margaret Lloyd George, 1914-1918”  disgrifir ei chwe phrif ymgyrch yn ystod y Rhyfel Byd Cyntaf: Cronfa’r Catrodau Cymreig; Cymdeithas y Morwyr Prydeinig a Thramor; recriwtio i’r Fyddin Gymreig; Bwyd ac Economi’r Cartref; Dirwest; Iechyd a Gofal Cymdeithasol. Mae’r gyfrol yn edrych hefyd ar ei hymgyrchu dros ferched, eglwysi a Chymru.

Mae “The Campaigns of Margaret Lloyd George – The wife of the Prime Minister 1916-1922”  yn ddadansoddiad manwl o fywyd cyhoeddus y Fonesig Margaret yn ystod ei chyfnod yn wraig i Brif Weinidog Prydain, David Lloyd George gan ganolbwyntio ar ei ymgyrchu wleidyddol yn ystod cyfnod 1916-1922,  rôl ddigynsail a bron heb ei hail gan briod Prif Weinidog. Mae Richard yn olrhain ei hymgyrchu ar y llwyfan gwleidyddol ar draws y wlad ac hefyd y nifer o leoedd yn Llundain lle bu’n ymgyrchu, o Romford i Hanwell, Hampstead i Camberwell, a strydoedd Canol Llundain.

Yn hyn oll fe’i chefnogwyd gan daid Richard, y Parch. J.T. Rhys, ei hysgrifennydd preifat yn Rhif 10 ac aelod gweithgar o gymuned Cymry Llundain. Mae’r archif o lythyrau ac areithiau a adawodd ar ei ôl wedi rhoi sylfaen berffaith i Richard i gloddio’n ddyfnach ym mywyd Margaret Lloyd George.
