Richard O’Brien’s new book, The Woman Who Helped Win the War: The Welfare Campaigns of Margaret Lloyd George 1914-1918, is out now, published by Y Lolfa. It is a prequel to Richard’s well received The Campaigns of Margaret Lloyd George, which explored the unprecedented political campaigning of a prime minister’s wife. Our Chair, Professor Russell Deacon, reviewed the book in the autumn 2023 issue of the Journal of Liberal History.
Richard will be out promoting the book over the coming weeks and has been interviewed today, Sunday 16/02/25, by Vaughan Roderick on BBC Radio Wales 8am Sunday Supplement, which is available online.
He shall also be at two upcoming events at the National Liberal Club in London, first the St David’s Day Dinner on 28th February, where the book will be advertised. He will then be speaking at the 26th March National Liberal Club dinner “Remembering David Lloyd George”. The latter will involve the current Brecon MP, David Chadwick. You don’t have to be a member of the Club to attend, so, go grab some tickets to an insightful and thoughtful look into this extraordinary woman.
Additionally, the Journal of Liberal History will carry a review of the book at a later date.
Please get in touch if you have an upcoming book that we can help promote on the website.
Good luck Richard and we look forward to reading it!
