Lloyd George Society member Gwynoro Jones, a founder member of the Social Democratic Party, and Alliance by-election candidate has sent the Society a memento of the weekend school held in May 1986 at the Abernant Lake Hotel in Llanwyrtd Wells – for many years the Society’s mid-Wales venue for our annual meetings. This elegant poster of a caricature of Lloyd George by Spy from Vanity Fair magazine was used to advertise the weekend school.
Unfortunately none of the records the Secretary holds go back as far as 1986, so we cannot let you know what talks were scheduled for this particular school or the names of those who contributed. We assume that Society luminaries Sir Maldwyn Thomas, Emlyn and Shirley Hooson and Montgomeryshire MP Alex Carlile would have been present and perhaps our current President Martin Thomas. But if anyone out there has an old programme or any recollections of the 1986 school we would be delighted to hear from you.
