Thirty years ago, in July 1985, Richard Livsey, came from third to win a sensational by-election victory for the SDP/Liberal Alliance. In doing so, Richard re-established a liberal presence in Brecon & Radnor that few had thought possible. Despite ups and downs, it is a legacy that continues today. It remains the Welsh Liberals only post war by-election gain.
Richard was of course a patron of the Lloyd George Society and one of our Vice Presidents until his death in 2010.
Brecon and Radnorshire Liberal Democrats are marking this anniversary by holding a special dinner at the Peterstone Court Country House Restaurant and Spa in Llanhamlac near Brecon on the evening of Saturday 18 July. The Rt Hon Lord David Steel, Leader of the Liberal Party at the time of the election, Kirsty Williams AM, Leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats and friends and colleagues from across Wales and the UK will gather to celebrate a famous victory and the legacy of a great Liberal.
At the time of writing there are still places available at the dinner. If you want to attend please contact Sam Bennett on 01874 625739 or 07933 433 903 or email Sam at:
All proceeds will go towards the worthiest of causes, the fund for Kirsty Williams’s 2016 re-election campaign.
