The Friends of the Lloyd George Museum and Silver Star Holidays Ltd have organised a trip to London from Thursday 3 - Sunday 6 December 2009 to visit sites associated with David Lloyd George. Itinerary: Thursday 3 December Travel to London, 8pm dinner at Odettes restaurant, Primrose Hill Friday 4 December
Morning visiting some of the houses where Lloyd George lived in London and the statute of LG in Parliament Square. Afternoon tour of the House of Commons and House of Lords. Evening meal at the House of Commons. Saturday 5 December Visit to Churt with lunch at the Pride of the Valley Hotel. In 1921 Lloyd George bought a 60 acre estate at Churt in Surrey. He built a large house with panoramic views of the valley below and named it Bron y De. After he resigned the premiership in 1922 he retreated often to Churt. From 1930 Lloyd George withdrew gradually from the political scene and devoted himself to developing his estate and writing his War Memoirs. Over the years he bought more of the surrounding land to expand his estate. Much of the land was poor sandy soil covered with scrub and heather. With characteristic determination LG turned it into fertile land, installed irrigation systems and planted orchards of apple, plum and other fruits trees. He also grew vegetables which he sold from a farm shop. He also had a large apiary and sold honey to Harrods and Fortnum & Masons labelled "From the estate of David Lloyd George OM MP." Lloyd George is still fondly remembered in Churt. Sunday 6 December Morning - Join the congregation for a service (bilingual) at the Eastcastle Street Chapel which Lloyd George used to attend. After the service there will be tea and coffee and an opportunity to meet the members. Afternoon - Visit to the the Clapham Junction Chapel to see the stained glass window dedicated to the memory of Mair Eluned the second child of David and Margaret Lloyd George who died when she was 17 years old.
